Chapati Roll Recipe (Roti Roll)

Chapati Roll or Roti Roll is a quick & easy lunch box idea that you can eat while on the move. It's an Indian-style homemade chapati roll filled with sautéed chicken and vegetables and loaded with the creaminess of yogurt sauce. It's a complete meal and prepare within 20 minutes.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Boiled Chicken Chopped
  • 3 teaspoon Oil
  • teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 2 Green chilies Chopped
  • 1 clove Grated Garlic
  • ½ cup Tomatoes Chopped
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • ½ cup Onion Chopped
  • teaspoon Black Pepper
  • Wheat Flour Dough To make soft chapati
  • ½ cup Yogurt
  • teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Red Chlli Powder
  • 1 Cucumber Chopped

Instructions

Prepare Stuffing

  • In a pan, add oil and heat it at medium temperature.
  • Now add cumin seeds and let it pop for few seconds. Also, add green chilies and grated garlic.
  • Saute for few seconds.
  • Now add chopped tomatoes and cook well.
  • Add chopped onion and boiled chicken and cook well.
  • Sprinkle black pepper and mix well.
  • Keep the stuffing on the side to cool down.

Preparation of Soft Chapati

  • Take wheat flour, water, and salt and make a soft dough with the help of water. Knead the dough for a few minutes. Cover the dough for ½ an hour (minimum time) and place it for resting at a warm place.
  • Now traditionally make roti on a skillet or griddle to prepare rolls.

Prepare Yogurt Sauce:

  • Take yogurt in a bowl and add salt and red chili powder. Mix well to form a thick sauce.
  • Chop the cucumber.

Assembling and Wrapping

  • Take a chapati and place a generous amount of yogurt sauce on it. Distribute the sauce through spoon evenly.
  • Now place chicken and veg stuffing in the middle.
  • Add fresh cucumber over it.
  • Wrap the chapati to form a roll.
  • Now toast on tawa or grill to perfectly secure the roll.
  • Wrap with aluminum foil or parchment paper and serve.

Notes

  1. Chapati roll can be prepared with leftover chapati but make sure it shows a soft and chewy texture.
  2. Make sure the chapati is not too old if you are using leftover otherwise it will break.
  3. Wheat flour chapati is good for making rolls. 
  4. Customize this recipe with your preferred stuffing. You can easily make variations with chicken, potatoes, veggies, and fish as per your choice. 
  5. While wrapping, make sure to seal the roll properly.
  6. Always toast the chapati rolls after roll making as it will help to make it tasty. 
  7. Butter brushing can be applied for toasting. 
  8. If you are making for a lunch box then fully wrap with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
