It’s a creation of Hafiz Abdul Majeed, who formulated this drink in 1906 at new Delhi. In Pakistan, it’s been introduced by Hamdard founder Hakim Muhammad Saeed. Hamdard Rooh Afza is the best brand due to its taste and export quality.
Rooh e afza is prepared with the extraction of different fruits that include apples, oranges, grapes, lemon, and grapefruit flavored with aqua rose and citrus flower that works as a stabilizer and flavoring agent. Allura red edible food color was added to mark the signature color of the Rooh afza drink. Sodium Benzoate is added as a food preservative.
I used to have this as a drink in my school thermos and believe it was bliss to have chilled rooh afza after a tiring class. Due to the high sugar content, it stayed me active and productive. I miss those days and the flavor.

Ingredients
Rooh Afza syrup: Increase or decrease the quantity of syrup as per your taste. If you like a concentrated drink then add more otherwise 2 tablespoon in 500 ml is fine!
Chilled Water: To make the drink
Fresh Lemon: Used freshly squeezed lemon extract.
Basil Seeds (Tukhm Balanga): used soaked seeds.
Mint: Dried and crushed mint sprinkled to add a minty flavor to drink. This is an option and you can also use fresh mint leaves.
Ice Cubes: To make it chilled!
How to Make Rooh Afza Drink
In a jug, add chilled water and pour rooh afza according to your taste and flavor. If you like extremely sweet then add more otherwise 2 tablespoon is enough in half liter water. Flavor the drink with freshly squeezed lemon juice. Soak the basil seed before 2 hours of making drink and add in drink with ice cubes. Give it a good mix or blend. Add fresh mint or dried mint to add minty flavor in your drink. This is optional and upto your choice to add mint.
