Rooh Afza is the best summer beverage that you can prepare in variety of ways. It’s a most popular drink in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Middle eastern region. Locally known as Sharbat, which is sweet and flowery in taste. In Arabic rooh means soul and Afza is the refreshing vibes so as the name combines it truly depicts essence of this red tint squash.
It’s a creation of Hafiz Abdul Majeed, who formulated this drink in 1906 at new dehli. In Pakistan, it’s been introduced by Hamdard founder Hakim Muhammad Saeed. Hamdard Rooh afza is the best brand due to taste and export quality.
Rooh afza prepared with the extraction of different fruits that include apple, orange, grapes, lemon and grape fruit flavored with aqua rose and cirtrus flower that work as stabilizer and flavoring agent. Allura red edible food color added to mark the signature color of Rooh afza drink. Sodium Benzoate added as a food preservative.
I used to have this as a drink in my school thermos and believe it was bliss to have chilled rooh afza after a tiring class. Due to high sugar content, it stayed me active and productive. I miss those days and flavor.

Ingredients
Rooh afza syrup: Increase or decrease the quantity of syrup as per your taste. If you like concentrated drink then add more otherwise 2 tablespoon in 500 ml is fine!
Chilled Water: To make the drink
Fresh Lemon: Used freshly squeezed lemon extract.
Basil Seeds (Tukhm Balanga): used soaked seeds.
Mint: Dried and crushed mint sprinkled to add minty flavor in drink. This is option and you can also use fresh mint leaves.
Ice Cubes: To make it chilled!
How to Make (With Water)
A chilled glass of Rooh afza with water will make you refresh in few minutes. Here is the step by step recipe and video to make at home.
In a jug, add chilled water and pour rooh afza according to your taste and flavor. If you like extremely sweet then add more otherwise 2 tablespoon is enough in half liter water. Flavor the drink with freshly squeezed lemon juice. Soak the basil seed before 2 hours of making drink and add in drink with ice cubes. Give it a good mix or blend. Add fresh mint or dried mint to add minty flavor in your drink. This is optional and upto your choice to add mint.

No! both are different, look is same! Taste and viscosity is also different.

Yes, 100% vegan as nothing derived from animal ingredients. Also, gluten free as everything is herbal and plant based. Many people are confused because of sugar. I’d like to add raw or unrefined sugar (white sugar) is safe and consider as vegan while the processed sugar like brown sugar is not vegan.

- ⅓ cup Rooh Afza
- 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Basil Seeds
- ½ liter Chilled Water
- 1 pinch Dry Mint

Instructions
