Extremely crispy, spicy, and perfectly flavored with a similar Five Guys Cajun seasoning blend. I successfully replicated this recipe after many attempts. I am a big fan of oven fries and homemade potato chips and always try them at home by adding different variations. Cajun fries seasoning always helps to enhance the flavor.

My friend circle is obsessed with spicy Cajun-style fries. So, I gave it a try to make copycat, and believe me it was finished in no time at home.

What are Five Guys Cajun Fries?

5 guys Cajun fries are famous all around the world due to their spicy flavor and crispy texture. There are many factors involved to make a successful fries recipe like the selection of potatoes, oil, and overall the temperature and cooking process. Their secret seasoning plays a vital role in making it a successful recipe brand.

It’s a crispy oven-baked fries tossed with a spicy cajun seasoning blend. Extremely firm and crispy texture from the outside and inside is full of mashed potatoes with soft and tender flavor.

You can easily make these Cajun-seasoned fries at home in an oven or air fryer with minimal ingredients. Cajun French fry seasoning is the taste twister in this recipe as it makes a perfect taste with crispy baked fries.

You know the best thing about this recipe is the handful of ingredients that you must have in your pantry. Even you can make Cajun seasoning at home just by combining a few spices and herbs.

The original recipe for these fries uses peanut oil that adds a nutty aroma to baked fries. Alternatively, use any vegetable or olive oil. So, if you want to give it an authentic flavor then don’t skip the peanut oil.

    Why This Recipe Works?

    • Super quick and easy to make with minimal ingredients.
    • Easily tailor the size to make little and large Cajun fries.
    • Spice up as much as you want.
    • Golden brown fries with a crispy texture are crowd-pulling and self-inviting.
    • Best to serve as an appetizer, snack, or as a side dish with a quick dinner.
    • Easy to prepare homemade version! best to enjoy fries time while watching TV.

    Ingredients

Potatoes: To get the best result use potatoes that are low in moisture and high in starch. Russet potatoes are ideal for baking. Alternatively, use Yukon Gold and Maris Piper.

Cajun Seasoning: It’s a blend of cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and white pepper. If you are using homemade then sprinkle salt and red pepper accordingly. Most of the store-bought versions contain salt and pepper. So adjust the taste accordingly.

Peanut Oil: Authentic Cajun fries from 5 Guys are prepared with peanut oil that can be substituted with olive, vegetable, or canola oil.

Salt and Pepper: Sprinkle salt and black pepper to enhance the taste.

    Copycat Air Fryer Cajun Fries

Preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees F. Brush the peanut oil on the fryer basket. Place the seasoned fries. Don't make it crowded. Arrange according to the size of the air fryer. Cook for 25 to 30 minutes. Check the fries after 15 minutes and reshuffle if it's required.

Take it out, season it with Cajun mix and serve!

[Caution]: Remember peanut oil has a high smoke point.

    Copycat Deep Fried Cajun Fries

It's easy to make a deep-fried version of these fries. Heat oil in a wok and place the fries at a high temperature. Stir continuously with a gentle hand to get an even brown color. As the fries turned to a golden-brown color. Take it out and place it on absorbent paper to absorb excess oil.

Check these deep frying tips to make it crispy for long.

    Tips & Variations

    • To get the best result, cut the fries in a uniform style. Boardwalk-style fries are best for 5 guys fries.
    • To get the crispy oven fries, use a convection oven as it is helpful to make crispy fries.
    • Make sure to dry the potatoes before baking. Otherwise, the moisture can make it soggy after baking.
    • Never soak the potatoes in chilled water for a long time.
    • Use little oil for baking as too much can make it oily and messy in texture.
    • Avoid overcrowding the baking dish.
    • Always bake in a preheated oven.
    • Use parchment paper or aluminum foil for baking otherwise the potatoes will stick to the pan of the baking dish.
    • Season the fries with Cajun seasoning right after baking.

    How To Store & Reheat

Store in Refrigerator: It's best to serve the hot and spicy fries right after baking. I am not in favor of storing fries in the refrigerator as they become soggy.

In case you have leftovers, then wrap them in an absorbent paper bag or simply use brown paper. It will help to absorb the natural moisture of potatoes.

Place the paper bag in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days.

Reheat:  Once needed, then reheat it on a skillet at the stovetop or simply place it in a baking tray and bake in preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes. Spray oil to make it crispy!

    Serving Idea

Fries are the star of any dining as everyone loves to eat. You can serve solo with sauce. Or, pair up as a side with the main course.

If you are making a big platter with burger, sandwich, baked pasta, oven oven-baked chicken, add these fries loaded with some side options like baba ganoush, hummus, or salad. I love to have it solo with house sauce or with garlic parmesan sauce.

    Q & A

How to choose potatoes to make perfect Cajun fries?

Potatoes with less moisture and a high content of starch are ideal for baking. In America, Russet potatoes are ideal for baking and are easily available in stores. If you are in the UK, King Edward or Maris Piper are best to use in place of Russet. In Australia, try with Russet Burbank. It's widely grown in North America.

How's the Cajun Fries taste like?

Spicy! with umami flavor. It's crispy from the outside and the interior is full of the flavor of mashed potatoes. Cajun spices make it so delicious!

Is it hot and spicy fries?

Yes, it is spicy, but you can easily manage the spiciness, especially if you make a Cajun seasoning blend at home. Cayenne pepper is the main spice that controls heat, so add it according to your taste buds.
