    What is Milk Toast?

Sweet toast or milk toast (milquetoast) comes in the category of bread dessert. Crispy light brown toasted bread slices or cubes dipped in warm milk make a perfect creamy, buttery and caramel taste of sweet milk toast. Ideally in America, people love to have in winter as it gives a warm vibes and one of the best soggy comfort food that everyone love.

Normally people make sweet bread toast in a different style. People from America make it differently as old fashioned milk toast. In the same way, European sweet bread toast is entirely different from this recipe. People in South Asian countries like India, and Pakistan make meetha toast (a version of sweet bread toast), and also make shahi tukra or double ka meetha. This recipe is the hybrid form of shahi tukra, meetha toast, and double ka meetha. To extend the boundaries, I heard people from Hongkong makes condensed milk sandwich more or less in same way.

I love this recipe as it's super quick and easy! that you can easily prepare in 5 to 10 minutes. If you like classic french toast eggless, then give it a try.

    Ingredients

Bread Slices: Take fresh white or milk bread slices.
    Butter:
    Unsalted for toasting the bread.
    Sugar:
    Used granulated sugar.
    Milk:
    Full-fat milk is used.
Yellow Food Color: Used for color enhancement.
Rose essence (Kewra): Will add a flowery aroma to the toast.
    Powdered Milk
    : To decorate the toast.

    How to Make Sweet Toast

    Step 1: Toast the Bread

Start by removing the sides of the bread then give a diagonal cut. In a pan, add butter and brush it evenly then toast the slices on low heat to make it crispy with a light brown toasted color. Keep it aside but don't cover the toast.

    Step 2: Preparing Milk

In a pan, add sugar, milk, and a pinch of yellow food color and give it a good mix. Now boil the milk and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes. Keep stirring to make it creamy in texture. Add a few drops of kewra essence as it will add a flowery aroma to the milk. Mix well until the milk shows a homogenous texture and starts to get thick.

Step 3: Add Toast in Creamy Milk

As the milk starts to get thick, dip the bread slices in milk and as it starts absorbing the milk, gently take it out on a serving platter. (Never leave the toast in hot milk for a long time otherwise it will mushy in texture). Repeat the process to dip all the slices and place them on a platter like a stake then garnish with powdered milk.

    How to Store Milk Toast

It's the best party toast that you can make ahead of time and simply store in the refrigerator on a serving platter. Make sure to wrap the platter with plastic film otherwise, the juices of bread will be dried out.
